When you install Letterly and open it, you go through a short setup.

Step 1. Start

The welcome screen explains what Letterly does. Tap Let's start!

Step 2. Tell Letterly what you need it for

Pick what you plan to write — messages and emails, notes, thoughts and ideas, journaling, social media posts. You can choose several.

This helps us shape Letterly around the way you actually use it.

On this screen iOS also asks whether Letterly may track your activity across other apps. It is optional and changes nothing in how the app works — we use it only to see which ad channel you came from.

Step 3. Create an account

Choose Continue with Google, Continue with Email, or Continue with Apple. An account keeps your notes safe and available on every device you use Letterly on.

You can also continue without an account and sign in later — but your notes will not sync to your other devices until you do.

Step 4. Allow microphone access

Letterly needs the microphone to transcribe your speech. Tap Continue, then allow it in the iOS prompt. Without it, recording does not work.

Step 5. Set up Dictation

The Letterly Dictation screen offers writing with your voice in any app, without opening Letterly. Tap Set up to do it now, or Later to skip.

You land on the notes screen. Tap the microphone button to make your first recording. If you skipped dictation, the Letterly Dictation banner stays at the top until you set it up.

If you skip, Letterly asks you to confirm: dictation will not work until the setup is finished, and you can come back to it at any time.

Opening Letterly on your Mac for the first time takes a few steps.

Step 1. Open Letterly

Open the app after installing it from the Mac App Store. See Download & install.

Step 2. Sign in

Sign in with Google, Apple, or your email.

Step 3. Allow permissions

Letterly asks for the microphone, so it can hear you, and for Accessibility, so it can insert text into other apps. The second one is only needed for dictation.

Step 4. Set up Dictation

Open Settings → Dictation to set up the shortcut and the floating bar, or skip it and come back later.

When you open Letterly on Windows for the first time, you go through a short setup. Signing in happens first — the app works only with an account.

Step 1. Start the setup

The welcome screen explains what Letterly does. Click Let's start! Letterly opens the sign-in page in your web browser.

Step 2. Sign in

What you see depends on whether you are already signed in to Letterly on the web.

Already signed in: the Open the Letterly desktop app screen shows your account. Check that it is the right one and click Continue. If it is not, click Use a different account.

Not signed in yet: choose Continue with Google, Continue with Apple, or Continue with Email.

Step 3. Return to the app

The browser shows Authentication complete and asks to open Letterly. Click Open Letterly in the dialog, then close the browser tab.

Step 4. Meet Dictation

The app opens on the Meet Dictation screen — dictation lets you speak directly in any app and see your words appear right there.

Click Try now to set it up, or Later to skip.

There is nothing to install on the web.

Go to web.letterly.app.

Step 2. Sign in

Sign in with Google, Apple, or your email.

Step 3. Allow microphone access

Allow the microphone when the browser asks. Without it, recording does not work.
