Shortcuts app

Letterly comes with Apple Shortcuts that start a recording without opening the app. Add a shortcut once, then run it from the Action Button, Control Center, the Lock Screen, or the Home Screen.
Requires iOS 26 or newer.
Two shortcuts

Add a shortcut
- In Letterly, open Settings → Dictation → Action button.
- Tap Add Shortcut.
- Confirm adding it in the Shortcuts app.
Put it on your Action Button
- Open Settings → Action Button.
- Swipe to Shortcut.
- Select the Letterly shortcut you added.
The Action Button is not the only place. You can also add the shortcut to Control Center, the Lock Screen, or your Home Screen — anywhere iOS lets you place a shortcut.
Record a note without opening Letterly
Run the shortcut, say what is on your mind, and the note appears in Letterly on its own. Your phone can stay locked the whole time.
Dictate into another app
- Place your cursor in the app you are writing in — a messenger, mail, a form.
- Run the shortcut. The recording runs in the background, so the app stays open.
- Stop the recording from the Letterly Keyboard. The text lands in the field you are in.
Your dictation is also copied to the clipboard, so you can paste it anywhere if it was not inserted.
